Quarter Past Midnight edition by Jan Prestopnik Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
A fun and intriguing read. Kept me guessing till the surprise ending.
Another great book by Jan Prestopnik! I couldn't put it down!
Very enjoyable!
The author has a wonderful way of building her characters and allowing the reader to know them. The storyline was very interesting and keeps your attention to the very end.
Enjoyed it immensely, as I did your first book. Live near Saratoga and went to SUC@Plattsburgh
You painted a lovely picture with your writing.
Jan Prestopnik has done it again. To say that Quarter Past Midnight was a pleasure to read would be an understatement. The writing is superb. The images are so vivid and clear, that from the outset, this reader found herself on Spruce Lake in the Latimer family camp alongside Aaron, moving through his incredible journey with him.
The wife of wild-life photo journalist Aaron Latimer has left him. His relationship with his only brother is practically non-existent. Reluctant to admit his role in both situations, he retreats to his family’s remote Adirondack camp. Fully intending to work on his marriage, his job and on reconnecting with his brother, Aaron will learn that the road to hell is paved with good intentions.
At quarter past midnight, Aaron sees a flickering light on the opposite lake shore. He follows the light to a deserted camp where he encounters the ghost of Virginia Dunn, a young girl whom he later discovers has died a mysterious death a decade earlier. Sobbing profusely, she walks the beach with a flickering lantern in hand clearly searching for something. Strangely intrigued, Aaron returns every night. When intrigue becomes an obsession, Aaron is tempted to risk it all until he begins to see himself through Virginia Dunn’s eyes.
A masterful weave and a must read, Quarter Past Midnight takes the reader through Aaron’s ordeal to its astonishing climax. Long after closing the book the reader will wonder was the ghost of Virginia Dunn real or was she a figment of both the reader’s and Aaron Latimer’s imaginations?
I believe in ghosts after reading this! A haunting story that keeps you turning pages.
Jan is an excellent story teller. I finished it a couple of days as it was hard to put down.
